 Prince Charles wed Diana Spencer in a royal wedding televised live.  This was a fairy tale wedding but the marriage was doomed through incompatibility and ended in divorce and recrimination.

In 1981 the Synod of the Church of England voted to allow women to be ordained.  Maybe not the career you would choose but interesting that it was opposed by so many within the Synod and by both men and women in congregations.

Fought between Britain and Argentina over sovereignty  of the Falklands, a set of islands in the South Atlantic.  The war lasted 10 weeks in 1982 and resulted in 649 Argentine and 255 British deaths.  The Islands remain under British control.

In 1989 the Berlin Wall, built by the Russians in 1961 to separate the Communist controlled East Germany from the German Democratic Republic to the west.  It was a stark symbol of the Cold War that  started

started in 1946 with the United States foreign policy of Soviet containment, and it ended in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union.
